CSIR JRF NET Exam-An Alternative to GATE


          CSIR Conducts National Eligibility Test for Engineering graduates in all branches for selecting junior research fellows at CSIR labs and other premier institutes in the country such as IISc Bangalore and IIT’s. They conduct the exam twice in an year In June and December. Applications are invited for NET exam which is on December 21,2014.Engineering graduates and final year students have to appear the Engineering Science exam which is common to all branches of Engineering.

What is JRF : A large number of JRFs are awarded each year by CSIR to candidates enrolled in integrated MS-Ph.D  after qualifying the National Eligibility Test ( NET) conducted by CSIR twice a year June and December.  Candidates with bachelor’s degree, whether Science, engineering or any other discipline, will be eligible for fellowship only after getting registered/enrolled for Ph.D/ integrated Ph.D. program within the validity period of two years. 

It is an option to do integrated Ph.D at IIT’s and to get job as Trainee Scientists at CSIR labs.

EXAM SCHEME

TIME: 3 HOURS            MAXIMUM MARKS: 200

Single Paper Test having Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) is divided in three parts.

Part 'A'This part shall carry 20 questions pertaining to General aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning graphical analysis,analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparisons, series formation, puzzles etc. The candidates shall be required toanswer any 15 questions. Each question shall be of two marks. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 30 out of 200.

Part ‘B’ :

 This part shall contain 25 questions related to Mathematics and Engineering Aptitude. Candidates shall be required to answer any 20 questions. Each question shall be of 3.5 marks. Total marks allocated to this section shall be 70 out of 200.

Part ‘C’

Shall contain subject related question of the following 7 subject areas :1. Computer Science & Information Technology2 Electrical Science3. Electronics4. Materials Science5. Fluid Mechanics6. Solid Mechanics7. ThermodynamicsEach subject area will carry 10 questions. Candidates shall be required to answer any 20 questions out of a total of 70questions. Each question shall be of 5 marks. The total marks allocated to this part shall be 100 out of 200.

There will be negative marking @25% for each wrong answer. To enable the candidates to go through the questions, the question paper booklet shall be distributed 15 minutes before the scheduled time of the exam. The answer sheet (OMR sheet) shall be distributed at the scheduled time of the exam.
